Our Impact Pledge

We have a vision for an earth-first beauty industry focused on minimizing its footprint through actionable practices. We believe sustainability is not a straight path from A to Z, but a combination of conscious decisions to guide our planet towards preservation, restoration, and regeneration.

  • We actively seek suppliers who champion sustainable and regenerative farming practices, with a focus on ingredients from small scale farmers and cooperatives whenever possible. It’s our mission to build trusted partnerships and relationships with all of our suppliers.
  • We are committed to using sustainable materials that consider the bigger environmental picture - from the bottles used for our products to the boxes that land on your doorstep.
  • We are a B Corp Certified Organization and prioritize people and planet over profits.
  • We strive to work with partners that align with our values, leverage renewable energy sources, and actively seek to reduce their footprint.

Our Sourcing Commitment

Every company we partner with must meet our standards for maintaining healthy working conditions, and align with our values of social and environmental responsibility. We consciously assess our partners utilizing third party audits, and prioritize working with those that stand out as pioneers of sustainability.

We prioritize partnering with B Corp Certified companies.

We prioritize working with local farmers and cooperatives to source our ingredients, where we can build trusted relationships to ensure transparency and careful preservation from harvest to bottle.

Outside of our own direct-sourcing, we source ingredients only from suppliers who work directly with farmers and cooperatives themselves. We ensure each of our suppliers aligns with our values on supply chain transparency, as well as sustainable and regenerative farming and harvesting practices.

Our Packaging Promise

When selecting our packaging materials, we seek to see the bigger picture. That means considering the full life cycle of the container, and its downstream environmental impacts.

Why Aluminum?

We chose aluminum as our primary packaging material after conducting an audit with the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute. While a perfect solution doesn’t yet exist, Aluminum was the best solution when considering the environmental impact of materials beyond just their carbon emissions. Aluminum is infinitely recyclable, and is recycled at a much higher rate than plastic or glass.

Our Continued Progress

We offer our products in reusable and recyclable aluminum containers. In the months to come, we are excited to roll out larger sizes in select products across our haircare line to both reduce our consumer costs, and minimize the environmental footprint of our plant-based products.

The world of packaging is evolving rapidly. As life-long learners, we are constantly monitoring the advances of new materials and their ability to decompose, reduce the stress on landfills, and limit carbon emissions.

Pact Collective Recycling Program

We are a part of a global community of beauty companies and corporations that are committed to moving the industry towards circularity, and reduce, recycle, educate, and innovate.

Recycle Your Pumps & Sprayers

"Our products were inspired by my deep reverence for the natural world and the power of plants for beauty and wellbeing. At Captain Blankenship, we make decisions based on what we feel is best for people and the planet. We are constantly evolving to stay on the cusp of what seems to be the most sustainable option when it comes to ingredients, packaging and partnerships. We are all stewards of Mother Earth and it is a responsibility we shouldn’t take lightly."

B-Corp Certified

Certified B Corporations are a community of organizations considered leaders in the global drive for social and environmental impact. To enter the B Corp community, we underwent an extensive certification process, including a 200 question assessment and a thorough verification of our transparency standards and practice.

As a B Corp certified company, we have pledged to uphold the B Corp Declaration of Interdependence - setting ourselves apart as leaders in a new global economy that uses business as a force for good. The Declaration states the following:

  • That we must be the change we seek in the world.
  • We are committed to using sustainable materials that consider the bigger environmental picture - from the bottles used for our products to the boxes that land on your doorstep.
  • That all business ought to be conducted as if the people and place mattered.
  • That, through our products, practices, and profits, we should aspire to do no harm and benefit all.
  • To do so requires that we act with the understanding that we are each dependent upon another and thus responsible for each other and future generations.
